How towers actually cool the water.
Think of when you first get out of the shower and you instantly get that cooling sensation, well it’s the same principle. The water starts to evaporate and pull the heat away from your body. You could think of a cooling tower as a big box made to make evaporation easier by creating a large surface area for water to evaporate onto.
What is the cooling process?
There are multiple different types of cooling towers used for multiple different applications and situations, but they all follow similar processes. Warm water is pumped into the tower as cool air flows into the tower. Depending on the method used the air and water will interact in different places, but yield the same result, evaporation pulling the heat out of the water. Naturally, warm air rises, but a fan is still used to help push it out of the tower and help regulate the temperature. All of this leads to much cooler water pooling at the base of the tower and is ready to be used for whatever is needed for that specific project.
